After snapping up Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger series, the Freeform channel is now preparing to create a Marvel-flavored half-hour comedy in the form of Marvel’s New Warriors.
Which means that the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl will finally burst onto our live-action screens.
According to the LA Times, the show is scheduled for release in 2018:
“‘New Warriors’ centers around six young people struggling to make a difference and learn how to harness their powers, making it an appropriate fit for Freeform’s mission to deliver quality content to young adults.”
New warriors has a wonderful slate of young heroes for everyone to enjoy, but perhaps none is better known than Squirrel Girl, who is known for her power to… well, to communicate with squirrels and have them do her bidding. She’s pretty great.
Several actors have been pining for the role (including Anna Kendrick!), so we’ll see what comes of that casting in the days ahead. Kevin Biegel (of Cougar Town and Enlisted) is reportedly close to closing a deal to be showrunner and lead writer.
